Issue No. 15 of Your Weekly Staff Meeting focuses on The Team Bucket and a movie event to inspire your staff and volunteers.  By the way, Don Cousins, a great coach and ministry mentor, always asked himself this question before hiring someone.  “If this person didn’t work here, would I still enjoy having lunch together?”  Work will be a whole lot more fun if you enjoy the people you work with, so only recruit staff and volunteers that fit your culture.

Becoming a Healthy Team

“How have we seen God at work since we last met?” Steve Macchia suggests you ask that question at your next staff meeting.  He says healthy teams must get beyond the brick and mortar, dollars and cents, and “look for sightings of God at work in each member’s life and in every corner of the ministry and celebrate the transformative movement of God’s Spirit.”

If your staff meetings and retreats have degenerated into boredom and blaming, order Becoming a Healthy Team: 5 Traits of Vital Leadership, by Stephen A. Macchia.  Many natural born, shoot-from-the-hip leaders delude themselves into thinking that leading teams is easy and requires minimal preparation and prayer. Wrong! Macchia, founding president of Leadership Transformations, Inc., has resources to help your team, including this memorable acronym for the five vital traits of TEAMS: Trust, Empower, Assimilate, Manage, Serve.

Insights from the Management Buckets Workshop Experience

Here’s a way to thank and inspire your volunteers (and staff) this Christmas or next month.  Buy them lunch or dinner at a fast food restaurant and host them at the Rocky Balboa movie, in theaters December 22.

Rocky Balboa (written, directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone) is the latest installment in MGM’s Academy Award-winning Rocky film series.  MGM asked Motive Entertainment to create resources and promotions for the faith and family market.  I had the privilege of writing the eight-page Faith-Based Leader’s Resource Guide for Motive.  I also wrote the pass-along tract, The Fight for Your Life.  Order or download these and more free resources for your church, ministry or family at www.RockyResources.com.

In our Management Buckets Workshop Experience, we explain why sometimes movies versus money is the best motivator for staff and volunteers when we explore The Team Bucket (one of 20 buckets). Email me for the 2007 workshop dates.

Your Weekly Staff Meeting Questions:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. What’s your favorite scene from one of the Rocky films? Why?
2. The Apostle Paul wrote In 1 Corinthians 9:26 (TLB), “So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step.  I fight to win. I’m not just shadow-boxing or playing around.” Does our team demonstrate “purpose in every step?”
